PCALI focuses on several key initiatives for the betterment of the plumbing industry on Long Island. In turn, these initiatives provide a better, safer, and more efficient services for the public.
- Enforcement against unlicensed plumbers – Unlicensed plumbers pose a significant threat to the public. They are not required to register with a municipality, have liability insurance or go through the proper training.
- Enforcement against “covering” – Licensed plumbers sometimes will provide their license to unlicensed contractors who are fraudulently using the license. This fraud poses the same dangers to the public as directly hiring an unlicensed plumber.
- Project Labor Agreement (PLA) for all public-school work – Public school plumbing work (along with all other trades) is not required to be performed by a licensed plumber. In addition, there have been many instances of plumbing contractors using unskilled labor and not paying prevailing wages.
- Workforce Development – There is a shortage of properly trained plumbers. Funding should be made available for expansion of education for construction trades including plumbing and heating.
